Have you read the His Dark Materials series? I am currently reading them ... just finished The Golden Compass and starting The Subtle Knife. The first picture "Lady with the Ermine" reminds me of the people and their daemons. All those paintings were Pulman's inspiration for daemons ... "Lady with the Squirrel" and so on. I loooooove His Dark Materials.
